Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” can provide a safe and effective method of controlling your child’s pain and anxiety during dental treatment. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the nose and works very rapidly. Your child will not fall asleep during the procedure and will remain fully conscious and verbally communicative. After the procedure is completed, we will administer your child 100% oxygen to immediately dissolve the effects of the nitrous oxide. The most common side effect is mild nausea but is otherwise very well-tolerated.

General Anesthesia

Children may need to be put fully asleep for their dental treatment if they are unable to tolerate treatment in a dental office, have extensive treatment needs, or have medical conditions that make treatment in a dental office unsafe.

We are able to treat children under general anesthesia with the help of our anesthesia team in a private pediatric surgical center. During the procedure, your child will be placed under anesthesia and intubated. Dental X-rays are taken and all necessary dental work is completed during this one visit by Dr. Matt. Typically these cases take no longer than 30-45 minutes.
